Advertising and pronunciation

It is obvious that without a proper pronunciation there is not voiceover. Thus, without it we may not understand the message. Pronunciation sets up the comprehension of the text, therefore, it is an unavoidable quality, especially when recording commercials, in which the text, understood as a persuasive message, forces the content not only to be understood but also its formal and aesthetic conditions to be perfect.

 With that in mind, a good pronunciation is essential in the daily work of the voiceover artist, more than any other voice professional (except for the dubbing industry).

 It is logical to think that when dealing with previously recorded messages, it may not be such an important quality, but all professionals know that the speed of recording is of paramount importante; in other words, it is a plus point for being called back to a new recording. It is Market law; it is preferred a person who spends less time to record (subsequently will be called for more recordings), and with it, the recruiter is not forced to waste time until he finds the perfect voice over.

In addition to all this, the faster the work is carried out, the more time there will be to attend new recording calls.

Although it is not easy, it is good for a voice artist to get used to recording the first time without mistakes in pronunciation .

 If there are mispronunciations, those must be fixed. We, as a voice actors, make mistakes in our everyday lives (Madriz instead of Madrid in Spanish language) but a voiceover artist must be extremely wary when pronounces. They must have a perfect diction. However, it is necessary to clarify that it can be less demanding if the type of voiceover to record is in which the announcer plays a certain role. Here we can be more flexible since this type of narrations bring us closer to “real” life or to our daily world (where we are not perfect). But if the voice is in off the demand will be stricter.

 Some examples where the announcer plays a role could be voices drowned out by fear, deficiency states of the organism, boredom pronunciation… etc. It is paradoxical that to articulate poorly we will have to know how to articulate in an outstanding way and to articulate in an outstanding way we must first review the articulation process of both consonants and vowels and, thus, rule out or fix possible defects.
